As part of a recruitment process, I was tasked with designing the user interface of a mobile application that allows users to explore and purchase eco-friendly products. I was given exactly one week to submit my work.

Brand Name
Finding a brand name can be the hardest part of the design process because the name is essential and must reflect our common theme to achieve good design.
I researched names related to nature, cohesion, environment, green, sustainable, and eco-friendly. I wanted a name that could reflect the idea of a unique place (market / e-commerce platform) ethical with beneficial products for the planet.
I chose "Hiveby", which evokes a hive, a community place / a network to find excellent eco-friendly products. It's all about proximity, community, and sustainability. Bees are essential to life and represent the planet.

Font, Color & Accessibility
Primary Color: A muted green can create a sense of calm and comfort, ideal for designs aimed at reassuring. Green is universally recognized for environmental awareness and sustainability. This particular shade reflects eco-friendly values. It is a less common shade of green, which could help stand out and convey a sense of uniqueness or non-conformity.
Secondary Color: This shade harmonizes well with modern and minimalist design aesthetics, suggesting a focus on essentials. Due to its light and subtle nature, this color works well as a background or as a balancing element, allowing other colors to stand out more distinctly.

The application needed to be user-friendly and easily memorable for users, similar to other available e-commerce platforms, but I wanted to add this little extra aesthetic touch.
🤔 I tried to design a checkout page that strays from the norm, but I'm not sure it offers the best user experience. While it maintains the checkout flow and incorporates visual elements, three steps may be too much for users during their shopping.

Hi-Fi Prototype

I designed the homepage to be as visually appealing as possible; the first few seconds are crucial to keep users engaged with the application. Having a beautiful and clean user interface is essential. You can easily access the categories you shop for frequently for quicker navigation. Users can see the progress of their recent orders at the top of the screen. Large cards are designed to showcase new products and provide detailed information, including a story about the creator when clicked on. Below these cards, users can access information about the product's production process and its eco-friendly attributes.

The focus of the listing is on the product itself, allowing users to easily add items to their wish list. Filters for size, colors, prices, etc., are standard on most e-commerce apps, making them comfortable and easy to navigate and memorize. As part of the UX design, I considered not displaying the price initially, thus encouraging users to take an extra step, which could increase the chances of purchasing the item, but this could potentially detract from the overall user experience.

The page has been meticulously designed to provide easy access to the various available colors and sizes. At a glance, users can see how the product meets ethical and eco-friendly standards through informative labels. Detailed information about the product, including its cut and other relevant details, is easily accessible to users. The product card element is large and allows for image swapping, enabling users to easily see the item from all angles.

For the checkout process, I wanted something innovative and user-friendly while maintaining some familiarity for users. You can use the classic button on the user interface to proceed to the next step, or simply swipe up and down to navigate through the different stages. The navigation is intentionally designed to be as simple as possible, with user interface elements guiding you seamlessly throughout the process. At any time, you have a clear view of the total amount due and what it includes. In case of an error, canceling your order is easily accessible.

Using generative artificial intelligence, the Hiveby AI companion will help users discover products that match their unique personal style and preferences, focusing on natural and environmentally friendly products. Users can enhance the AI's selection by providing feedback on Hiveby AI's recommendations.
Next Step
The next step for Hiveby will be to find the best possible integration for generative artificial intelligence, allowing it to guide and assist users during their shopping on the platform. It will be fascinating to see how this technology can be implemented in people's lives in a subtle and effective manner.
